Toddler Activities You Can Play With Your Child

The right time to start having toddler activities is when your child reaches 6 to 12 months old. This is the ideal age since your baby’s mobility has progressed into crawling, walking and some attempts at running.

Toddler Activities – Whatever toddler activities you have lined up, it is important that you, the parent, are the one playing with your child.

But you should not just choose any activity to give to him or her. It is important to choose the right activity for your toddler because this is the time when his brain is like a sponge. You must choose the games which will teach her some things.

Aside from choosing his games, you should be beside your child during activity time. When doing this, you must extend your patience as your child will not learn everything in just one sitting.

You may even have to repeat the game several times so that he understands what you are trying to teach him.

Here are some games which your toddler will enjoy:

Peek-A-Boo

This game will help improve your child’s attention skills. You can play this game by hiding behind some furniture or with your hands. By this, you are allowing your child to concentrate on you as he waits for the time you will surprise him by appearing in front of him.

Reading

While your baby might be too young to understand everything, you can choose colourful books which have hard pages. When reading stories to your child, you can change voices for every character in the story so that her attention will be captured. This will also help build his interest in reading.

Sing and Dance

You can sing nursery rhymes with your child. If he cannot sing yet, just ensure that every line is clearly heard by your child. In addition, you can have some steps or movements for the songs which your child can easily copy. Among the most common songs are Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Toys

Among the toys which are best suitable for toddler activities is the shape sorter. You can first sort out the shapes for your child as you associate the shape. This should be done several times before you hand one shape to your child and point to him where it goes. This is a repetitive activity which will introduce your child to the different shapes.

Dolls

If you have a little girl, you can play doll with her. You can teach her how you can dress the doll by asking her which dress she likes best. Even though she is still too young to understand what you are trying to teach her, she will eventually learn how to dress the doll on her own with several repetitions.

Balls

Make sure that you have a soft and medium sized ball which your child cannot swallow. You can throw the ball towards your child and have him give it back to you. By playing this game with your child, you are further improving his mobility as well as teaching him how to understand instructions.

Whatever toddler activities you have lined up, it is important that you, the parent, are the one playing with your child. In return, you should also understand that you are not merely playing with your child as you are developing your bond with your child as well as teaching them how to identify things, understand instructions, and make different movements.
